About
Southern Gamer is a mess - plain and simple. It's a personal blog with a staff, a sporadic posting of quasi-editorial articles mixed in with fruitless rambling, it has a non-podcasting podcast (the few episodes of which will make your ears bleed), all while striving to be a community site - with no commenters. But, Southern Gamer is my site - and I love it.
Really, Southern Gamer is a reflection of me - a jumbled mess trying to go all directions at once with no clear goal, but very lofty dreams. I began the site, after years of contemplation and procrastination, in the Fall of 2008, just after graduating from college. It began with my roommate and long-time friend, Matt Hasty, and I posting inane commentaries on various topics (only sometimes including videogames) and often, just plain gibberish. Eventually, the novelty of having my own space to publish my thoughts and witticisms wore off, and I set out on a goal to create real content (in other words - write reviews, just like everybody else). This bled over into my desire to record a podcast, which I often had to beg people to be on with me, even though we still only have four episodes produced - a testament to the difficulty I had. But once again, I realized we weren't offering anything new. I thought the hook might just be that people would want to listen to our various and horrible southern accents - and make fun of us. I'm sure that actually happened, although those people didn't even have the courtesy to send me a derisive message.
Today, Southern Gamer is much like it has been for the past year and a half, but like me, it's still reaching for the stars. I'm still looking for my niche; my angle; my chutzpah, and when I find it, I'll let you know. Until then, look forward to more sporadic reviews, random thoughtful posts from my friends and me, constant tinkering, and hopefully overall improvement. As always, if you have any input, I would be most appreciative to hear it (good or bad). You can reach me on twitter or email. I'm ready for this thing to become a monster and grow right out from beneath my grasp. Perhaps my escapades at E3 and various other things will bring this to fruition. Until then, enjoy my mind-numbing monologues.
